When Kari sent me the quote for this month, the image of the sunlit ferns amongst the dark forest immediately came to mind. I asked her if she had a gut feeling about a certain kind of image just to see if we were on the same page. She described it exactly, without having ever seen this particular photo before. Must be a sister thing :)
It wasn't just that the feeling of this image aligned with these particular words of Brené Brown, but the moment happening as I captured this photo resonates deeply. I had recently reunited with a college friend and we found ourselves together, camping on Fathers' day, each of us grieving the loss of our own. During that shared weekend, I stepped into the depths of the pain to discover the power of friendship.
My heart tends to the beat of an empathic drum, which in many cases can be a wonderful thing, but often stepping into the darkness can be scary, and the weight of this broken world can be overwhelming. Yet, as I think back to the moment I took this image, it is beautiful to remember that I was not alone. So let this be an encouragement for us to step into the darkness together, and discover our collective light.
